HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE ROCKWOOD CITY COUNCIL MEETING

The Rockwood City Council held a regular session on April 28, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., preceded by a budget workshop to review fiscal year 2025/26 proposals with department heads. Mayor Jason Jolly proposed a follow-up budget meeting on May 19, before the next regular council meeting, to finalize and pass the budget on first reading. The May 19 meeting is scheduled a week early due to Memorial Day.
The council approved:
  • Purchasing two Dodge Durangos for the Rockwood Police Department for approximately $47,800.
  • Purchasing a zero-turn mower for the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • An ordinance (second reading) amending the Rockwood Municipal Code to define and regulate taxi businesses, requiring registration with the city.
  • A fee schedule (second reading, with public hearing) for services provided by the building and zoning official.
  • An ordinance to define tiny homes and tiny home parks, aligning with state statutes.
  • A resolution updating the 2020 10-year Parks and Recreation Plan for the next five years.
  • A resolution amending the city’s urban growth boundary map.
  • A resolution authorizing the mayor to sign the final draft of a lessor’s recognition, agreement, and consent to a leasehold deed of trust for an airport hangar.
The council also approved a $16,000 contract with Woodworth Core, an Atlanta-based firm, to conduct a study for a potential motel in Rockwood. The firm was selected from 11 applicants, narrowed to two finalists. Councilman Paul “Coach” K. Kimikawa, who chaired the selection committee, emphasized the firm’s reliability and urged state leaders to support the motel initiative.
