TWO INJURED IN HEAD ON VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON OAK RIDGE HIGHWAY

Two people were sent to the hospital after a head-on crash this morning (Wednesday, May 24, 2017) on Oak Ridge Highway near the intersection with Beaver Ridge. Troopers say 42-year-old Michael Murphy was going eastbound in a 2000 Ford Ranger when he crossed over the center turn lane and went into the westbound lane. He hit a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 45-year-old Cindy Fields head on. Murphy’s vehicle rolled onto its right side and came to a rest in the center turn lane facing north. Fields’ vehicle spun around and went into a ditch. Both drivers were taken to UT Medical Center. Murphy is facing charges of driving on a suspended license second offense, reckless driving and not having insurance. More charges are pending. Fields will be charged with driving with an expired driver’s license. The crash shut down part of the highway for a time.
