CUMBERLAND COMMISSION MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

The Cumberland County Commission convened in June 2025, with Commissioners Sue York, Jack Davis, and Jerry Cooper absent. The meeting opened with special recognition for Assistant Finance Director Christian Kerley, who earned the prestigious Certified County Finance Officer designation, joining Finance Director Jennifer Turner among the few in the state with this credential.
During public comments, Craig Clark praised the county’s Emergency Medical Services and new 15-lead cardiac monitors, which facilitated rapid diagnosis and treatment of his heart attack, allowing EMS to relay critical data to Cumberland Medical Center (CMC) for immediate surgical preparation, ultimately saving his life with five stents.
The commission approved Resolution 06-2025-1, updating the county personnel policy with minor clarifications on overtime, longevity pay, and other policies, and passed several routine budget amendments (Resolutions 06-2025-2 through 06-2025-12) for various county departments, including schools, highway, and debt services.
Financially, the Codes Department issued 24 residential permits and collected $31,663 in fees, while EMS collections reached $432,002 for May, exceeding projections. Sales tax collections for the Board of Education were slightly below forecasts at $1,423,150. Still, year-to-date figures remain above expectations, with property tax collections at 99.68 percent and hotel/motel taxes at 78.13 percent of the annual budget.
