HARRIMAN CITY COUNCIL MEETING AND COOKOUT HIGHLIGHTS

The Harriman City Council held a regular session, honoring two girls’ softball teams for their fourth-place finish in the state tournament. Parks and Recreation Director Charlie Jones presented the teams and received a plaque from their coach. Candice Vandisdale from the Harriman Utility Board reported that fiber cable has been installed in several town locations, enabling affordable internet service, with details available on their Facebook page.

CPA Richard Hill presented the 2024/25 fiscal year audit, noting a clean audit despite a $180,000 shortfall, which was covered by budget amendments without borrowing. The city is seeking public input via an online survey for the future use of the acquired Old Paper Mill site, as discussed by Mayor Wayne Best.

Before the meeting, the city hosted a free cookout in the City Hall parking lot, attended by about 150 people. Council members Lonnie Wright, Tim Johnson, and Johnny Bracket cooked hamburgers and hotdogs. City Manager Scott Mason and Mayor Best thanked attendees and plan to hold another cookout soon.
