TOY PLAY KITCHENS RECALLED; ONE DEATH REPORTED

Backyard Kids, LLC, of Plano, Texas, is recalling approximately 192,000 KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchens due to a strangulation hazard, with about 400 units sold by Backyard Kids and 12 in Canada. The play kitchens, designed for children aged 3 and older, pose a risk as young children climbing on the counter or crawling through the back opening can have their clothing caught on plastic or metal hooks meant for toy accessories, such as play pots and pans.

A tragic incident in February 2023 in Oregon resulted in the asphyxiation death of a 23-month-old child whose shirt caught on a hook. The affected play kitchens, primarily black and light gray with wood-like countertops, were sold online at KidKraft.com, Amazon.com, and Walmart.com from 2018 to July 2025 for $120 to $270. Following KidKraft, Inc.’s bankruptcy in May 2024, Backyard Kids is offering free replacement hooks to remedy the hazard.

Consumers are urged to stop using the play kitchens, remove the original hooks, and contact Backyard Kids at 800-882-0234, [email protected], or www.kidkraft.com/pages/recall for replacement hooks. The products were manufactured in China.
