CUMBERLAND COUNTY BUDGET UP FOR VOTE TODAY; NO EXPECTED PROP. TAX INCREASE

According to a report by the Crossville Chronicle, the Cumberland County Commission will convene a special-called meeting this afternoon to vote on the county’s 2025-26 fiscal year budget, immediately following a 4:30 p.m. public hearing by the county’s budget committee at the Art Circle Public Library in Crossville, Tennessee.
During the hearing, Finance Director Jennifer Turner will present budget highlights, and the public will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed budget, which includes no property tax increase. The commission will consider six resolutions, including fixing the tax levy, approving a new employee pay scale, making appropriations for county departments and non-profit organizations, setting election officials’ compensation, and designating a one-time $2.9 million contribution to the road department.
Key budget highlights include $19 million for the Cumberland County Board of Education (the state-mandated minimum), a 6% salary increase for county employees costing $1.8 million, $785,064 for a new emergency communications system infrastructure, $132,935 for a microwave hop, $420,000 for three ambulance remounts, and $300,000 for five new Sheriff’s Office vehicles.
