CUMBERLAND COUNTY PROPERTY TAX TO NOT CHANGE

On August 12, 2025, the Cumberland County Commission held a public hearing and special meeting to approve the 2025-2026 budget, with all members present except Commissioner Holbrook. The budget, totaling just under $177 million, maintains the property tax rate at $1.1350, ensuring no tax increase and keeping Cumberland County among the lowest-taxed counties in Tennessee.

Key highlights include funding for a new initiative to train sheriff’s deputies as Emergency Medical Responders, costing $30,000 annually, to provide immediate lifesaving care. The budget allocates $43,699,528 in general fund revenues and $43,865,056 in expenditures, with a slight deficit of $165,528, while the Board of Education’s budget, comprising 53% of the total, projects a $2,430,967 deficit covered by its fund balance.

Capital expenditures of $2,817,630 include roof and HVAC replacements, sheriff’s vehicles, jail upgrades, and equipment for the Fire Department and Solid Waste. A salary study prompted a 12% pay scale adjustment, fully funded with raises over two cycles and credit for job experience.

Non-profit funding of $209,600 supports organizations like the Chamber of Commerce and Cumberland County Playhouse. Resolutions passed include fixing the tax levy, updating the pay scale, appropriating funds for various departments, supporting non-profits, updating Election Commission compensation, and allocating $2.9 million for road repairs, with most resolutions passing unanimously, except for the appropriations resolution, which passed 15-2.

County Mayor Allen Foster thanked elected officials, department heads, and the Finance Department for their efforts and encouraged residents to subscribe to his newsletter and follow him on social media for updates.
