MONROE COUNTY MAN CHARGED WITH 1ST DEGREE MURDER
On January 30, 2025 Monroe County Sheriff Officers were dispatched to 204 Highway 72 East, Maryville at approximately 6:55 p.m. in reference to a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, deputies found 29 year old Dennis Jenkins, Jr. inside the residence, on the floor, with an apparent gunshot wound to his head. EMS responded as well and Mr. Jenkins was subsequently flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center via LifeStar. Mr. Jenkins succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) initiated an investigation into the incident with assistance from Madisonville Police Department. Following an almost eight month investigation, and consultation with the District Attorney’s Office, Monroe County detectives have issued a warrant for 50 year old Gerald Poff for First Degree Murder. Both Mr. Poff and Mr. Jenkins resided at 204 Highway 72 East, Maryville in Monroe County.
Mr. Poff is currently in the custody of Monroe County Sheriff’s Office detectives and is enroute to the Monroe County Jail-where he will be booked on the charge of First Degree Murder.
