SATURDAY WRECK ON PEAVINE FIRETOWER ROAD RESULTS IN SERIOUS INJURIES

On September 27, 2025, a motorcycle accident occurred at 1396 Peavine Firetower Road in Cumberland County, involving a 2014 Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager operated by Thomas Gregory Shontz, aged 60, with passenger Shawna Lynn Cote, aged 46. The crash, reported at 5:07 PM under cloudy daylight conditions, happened on a wet, curved section of the two-lane asphalt road when the motorcycle lost traction while negotiating a curve, resulting in an overturn.
Both occupants sustained suspected serious injuries and were transported to Cumberland Medical Center—Shontz by ground EMS and Cote by air EMS. The vehicle, which sustained disabling damage to the right front side, was towed by Norrod’s Wrecker Service. The incident, investigated by Deputy Aidyn F. Smith and assisted by Corporal John Coley and others, was not a hit-and-run, involved no alcohol or drugs, and occurred on a county route with no traffic control devices.
No violations were noted, and the road was cleared without secondary crashes.
