CUMBERLAND SCHOOLS OFFER FREE MEALS FOR STUDENTS IN 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR

The Cumberland County School Nutrition Program announced its policy for the 2025-2026 school year, continuing its participation in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. This USDA initiative, part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, allows schools in low-income areas to provide free breakfast and lunch to all enrolled students without requiring meal applications or fees.
The program aims to ensure that students receive nutritious meals, thereby enhancing their readiness to learn by reducing the time spent in lunch lines and allowing food service staff to focus on preparing healthy meals that meet USDA guidelines. The policy prohibits discrimination in child feeding programs based on race, sex, color, national origin, age, or disability, in accordance with USDA civil rights regulations.
