DRUNK MAN ON BICYCLE DEMANDS PEOPLE AT A TRAFFIC STOP TO ATTACK DEPUTY

On October 2, 2025, at approximately 12:04 AM, Deputy Holden Atkinson of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joshua Lee Brewer, a 39-year-old white male, at the Speedway gas station on West Avenue in Crossville, for public intoxication and obstruction of justice.
While conducting a traffic stop involving four individuals, Deputy Atkinson was interrupted by Brewer, who rode up on a bicycle, yelled profanities, and encouraged the group to attack the deputy. Despite being told to leave, Brewer continued circling the group and shouting obscenities.
When ordered to dismount, Brewer refused, swore at the deputy, and fled. After a brief chase, Deputy Atkinson apprehended Brewer, who resisted by reaching into his pockets and ignoring commands to show his hands, leading to his handcuffing.
The deputy noted the odor of alcohol on Brewer, who admitted to drinking “a couple beers.” Brewer’s reckless biking across traffic lanes, swerving dangerously, further justified his arrest for public intoxication and obstruction.
He was charged with public intoxication and obstruction of justice, with a court date set for October 27, 2025. Brewer requested his bicycle be left at the scene, which was granted.
This incident follows a prior arrest in 2023, where Brewer was charged after being found passed out behind the wheel at a gas station, indicating a pattern of substance-related offenses.
