DETAILS ON TODAY’S I-40 CRASH

An elderly driver traveling eastbound on Interstate 40 near mile marker 356 in Kingston experienced a medical issue, causing his vehicle to veer off the roadway onto the shoulder and strike a TDOT construction sign.
The impact scattered debris across both lanes, disrupting traffic until approximately 4:00 p.m. Kingston Fire Department officials, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and a Roane County ambulance responded to the scene. The ambulance transported both elderly occupants to a nearby hospital for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, with thanks to the Kingston Fire Department for providing scene photos.
