BEVERLY VANCE AIKENS SPEAKS AT FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH IN HARRIMAN

On Saturday evening, a special guest, Beverly Vance Aikens, mother of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, spoke at the First Christian Church in downtown Harriman, Roane County. She shared her inspiring story of hope and recovery, detailing her struggle with drug addiction that led to a six-year estrangement from her children, including Vice President Vance.
Aikens discussed a challenging period of her life she’s not proud of but emphasized how she overcame addiction, reconnected with her children and grandchildren, and rebuilt her relationships. Her journey is also featured in Vice President Vance’s book, Hillbilly Elegy, which was adapted into a Netflix film directed by Ron Howard, depicting their family’s life in the Appalachian hills of northern Kentucky.
Now free from addiction, Aikens travels the nation sharing her message of hope and recovery, as she did in Harriman this past Saturday.
