TENN. DEPT. OF CORRECTIONS MOVING TO DIGITAL MAIL

NASHVILLE – Beginning November 3, 2025, the Tennessee Department of Correction will transition from physical mail to scanned, digitized personal mail for inmates at all TDOC facilities.

Mail from family members, friends, and loved ones will be received at an off-site, centralized facility, where it will be processed, scanned, and delivered in a digital format to inmates via their TDOC-issued tablets. This new process aims to reduce contraband and increase security while providing faster and more reliable mail delivery to inmates.

Mail compliant with TDOC’s inmate mail policy will be scanned and displayed on the inmate’s tablet as written. Drawings and other permitted personalization will be included in the digital format. Letters will be delivered at no cost to the inmate, and inmates will have access to the letters for the duration of their incarceration. Additionally, senders will be able to track the status of their mail and will receive notification if a letter is rejected. Personal mail sent to TDOC facilities after November 3, 2025, will be returned to sender.

Starting November 3, 2025, all inmate mail must be sent to the following address:

Facility Name
Inmate First Last
TDOC ID #
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131

Privileged mail (correspondence from attorneys, court clerks, legal aid clinics, governmental officials or agencies, etc.) will not be affected and should continue to be sent to the facility where the inmate is incarcerated. Privileged mail sent to the scanning facility will be forwarded to the facility. Outgoing inmate mail will not be affected.
