ROCKWOOD MAN INDICTED ON AGGRAVATED SEXUAL BATTERY CHARGE INVOLVING 5-YEAR-OLD
A true bill was handed down this week against 32-year-old Mark Joseph Gagnon, who was arrested Monday and later released on a $75,000 bond in connection with an aggravated sexual battery charge. The charge stems from an August 22 incident in Rockwood, where Gagnon allegedly touched a 5-year-old girl inappropriately in her private area on multiple occasions.
During an interview conducted by Rockwood Police Department officers on August 22, the victim’s mother stated unprovoked that the 5-year-old had disclosed the incidents occurred more than once; a 7-year-old also mentioned the incident, according to the report. Rockwood Police Chief Kelly Pittman contacted the district attorney’s office, which then reached out to the Child Advocacy Center and arranged for the child to undergo an examination to confirm the allegations.
Gagnon has been released from jail on the $75,000 bond and awaits a court date. As always, individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
