FIRE ENGULFS STORAGE GARAGE AT FORMER IRON AND METAL SITE IN ROCKWOOD
Just after 11:00 yesterday morning, Rockwood Fire Department officials received a call about a building on fire at the former Iron and Metal location on the west end of the truck route and West Rockwood Street. Rockwood Fire requested mutual aid from the Harriman Fire Department, and an ambulance stood by as protocol while firefighters addressed the blaze.
Since the site is private property, access was restricted, preventing close footage of the fire itself. In a phone conversation, Fire Chief Matt Crabtree explained that the fire involved a three-sided garage building used to store miscellaneous items. His department extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported.
Two individuals at the location told him they did not know how the fire started, but Chief Crabtree noted the building had no electricity connected. The former Iron and Metal company site is now being used again for storing junk cars. There were no injuries, the fire was contained after about 30 minutes, and fire officials remained on scene for a little over an hour.
