FEDERAL PROBE DEEPENS INTO DEADLY TENNESSEE PLANT EXPLOSION THAT KILLED 16
Federal investigators, including a team from the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB), are arriving in Middle Tennessee this week to assess the site of a deadly explosion at the Accurate Energetic Systems plant that killed 16 people on October 10.
Evidence collection by the ATF and other agencies at the blast zone has been completed and is now under lab analysis, while on-site work continues to determine the cause of the detonation, which involved an estimated 24,000 to 28,000 pounds of explosive material, destroying much of the facility and injuring several workers.
CSB Chairperson Steve Owens described the incident as one of the deadliest industrial accidents in years, noting that investigators will meet with company leaders and federal officials; the plant manufactures explosive products for defense and commercial use.
