FAIRFIELD GLADE APPROVES $2.9M FOR NEW EMS CENTER, CONSTRUCTION STARTS NOV. 3
According to a report by the Glade Sun, The Fairfield Glade Community Club Board of Directors has approved a $2.9 million contract to construct an 8,000-square-foot joint Firehouse No. 1 and Emergency Services Building along Catoosa Blvd. off Peavine Road, with construction set to begin on November 3.
The contract was awarded to Stubbs Construction LLC of Crossville for $2.79 million, with an additional $110,000 allocated for community club services including equipment relocation, landscaping, a grinder pump, communications equipment, and upgrades to an existing storage building.
The new facility, necessitated by a 2023 land swap that requires relocating the current main fire station from Peavine Road near Stonehenge Drive, will initially staff one bunk room 24/7 with EMS personnel, while the second room is reserved for potential future full-time firefighters to accommodate community growth. Fire Department Chief Kirk McLaughlin expressed gratitude to the board and management, emphasizing the building’s role in enhancing volunteer services and his goal of 24/7 engineer staffing, with emergency medical responders also potentially stationed there.
Chief Financial Officer Jason Lambert noted that while the original plan was to fund the project with capital budget cash, alternative financing options are under consideration. The inclusion of dedicated emergency services space marks a significant upgrade from the existing firehouse.
