TRAFFIC STOP IN PUTNAM COUNTY LEADS TO FENTANYL ARREST

From the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office:
On October 29, 2025, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, with the assistance of PCSO Narcotics Division and Overton County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division, conducted a traffic stop at 791 S Jefferson Ave on a vehicle for a license plate violation.
The occupants of the vehicle were identified to be Jonah Mathews and Rebecka Rector. During the traffic stop Mr. Mathews was making furtive movements as if he was trying to conceal something or reach for a weapon. Deputies then asked Mr. Mathews to step out of the vehicle. When he did exit the vehicle, Mr. Mathews attempted to throw out and step on a piece of foil. The foil was found to contain a small amount of suspected fentanyl. Deputies then searched the vehicle which revealed approximately 3-4 grams of a pink substance believed to be fentanyl, multiple baggies, digital scales with powder residue, and several cut straws with residue. Mr. Mathews and Ms. Rector were both taken into custody and transported to the Putnam County Jail.
Jonah Mathews was charged with Manufacture, Delivery, Sell of Fentanyl, Tampering with Evidence, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Driving on Suspended. Mr. Mathews has a bond set at $72,500 and a court date of December 1, 2025.
Rebecka Rector was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Ms. Rector has a bond set at $1,500 and a court date of December 1, 2025.
