CUMBERLAND MAYOR PROCLAIMS NOVEMBER AMERICAN INDIAN HERITAGE MONTH

In recognition of the profound influence of American Indians and indigenous peoples on the history, culture, freedom, prosperity, and greatness of the United States, Mayor Allen Foster of Cumberland County, Tennessee, has proclaimed November 2025 as American Indian Heritage Month.
This designation honors the respected customs, traditions, languages, and stories of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and Island communities, building on the legacy of Native American Awareness Week established in 1976 and expanded by Congress and President George Bush in 1990.
At the request of the Crab-Orchard Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the proclamation calls upon all Cumberland County citizens to celebrate this rich heritage, supported by ongoing programs, partnerships, and parks that preserve and share indigenous stories, ensuring their contributions thrive for future generations.
