ANOTHER CHILD DEAD IN SECOND OVERTON COUNTY HOUSE FIRE
In Overton County, Tennessee, a 3-year-old child died from smoke inhalation in a house fire on Rickman Monterey Highway Tuesday morning, marking the second fatal house fire involving young children in less than a week.
Fire crews from the Rickman Volunteer Fire Department saved the home, but were unable to save the toddler; the child’s mother and a younger sibling escaped and were taken to Vanderbilt Emergency Medical Center for treatment. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which is also assisting with a separate deadly blaze on Saturday on Railroad Street in Livingston that claimed the lives of two other children, ages 3 and 7.
In that earlier fire, one firefighter was burned while attempting to rescue the children. The Livingston Fire Department has announced a community prayer vigil on the town square to support the grieving families and honor the three young victims.
