CUMBERLAND COUNTY MAN INDICTED ON 1ST-DEGREE-MURDER CHARGE

According to a report by the Crossville Chronicle, a 30-year-old Cumberland County man, Devin Christopher Schillinger, has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge for the fatal shooting of 36-year-old Michael Paul Kerley on July 6. The incident occurred at Schillinger’s home in the 200 block of George Anna Drive in Westel, just off Highway 70 East.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the arrest affidavit, Kerley was walking across the driveway and was not threatening, assaulting, or speaking to anyone when Schillinger shot him in the head. The two men had reportedly argued the previous night but had no interaction on the day of the shooting. Kerley died at the scene from the gunshot wound.
Schillinger is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday before Criminal Court Judge Shawn Fry, where he is expected to enter a not-guilty plea and address legal representation. The indictment follows a grand jury’s determination that probable cause exists to believe Schillinger committed the crime.
