TEEN DRIVER LEADS CUMBERLAND DEPUTIES IN CHASE, CRASHES, THEN HIDES UNDER PORCH

On December 4, 2025, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputy Breanna Freeman attempted to stop a white Buick Lucerne traveling at high speed on Peavine Road in Crossville, Tennessee. The vehicle, driven by 19-year-old John Michael Kelly, accelerated to over 100 mph, swerved into oncoming traffic, passed other vehicles recklessly, and eventually crashed on Peavine Road.

Kelly fled on foot, ignoring commands to stop, and was later located by a K9 unit hiding under a nearby porch and taken into custody. Kelly showed clear signs of intoxication (strong odor of alcohol, red/watery eyes, slurred speech), had no valid driver’s license, and was under 21. Inside the vehicle, officers located open alcoholic beverages, drug paraphernalia, approximately 3.5 grams of marijuana, and roughly 1 gram of a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine.

The two passengers were the vehicle’s registered owner and 21-year-old Kayden D. Miller. Kelly faces multiple charges including DUI, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, driving without a license, and underage consumption, and Miller was later served with an outstanding warrant for possession of methamphetamine.

All three individuals were taken into custody, and the seized drugs, blood samples, and paraphernalia were logged as evidence.
