CITY COUNCIL TO REVISIT CITY AMBULANCE SERVICE PROPOSAL AT NEXT WEEK’S MEETING
The Crossville City Council will meet on December 9 to once again address the hot-button issue that is the proposed ambulance service run by the fire department. Initially approved 3-2 in September, the decision was rescinded 4-1 in October in favor of a referendum.
City Attorney Randall York has now advised that the city lacks authority under its charter to hold such a referendum without a private act from the Tennessee General Assembly.
The council is expected to rescind the referendum motion and consider petitioning the state legislature for permission. Council opinions remain split, with some favoring council action and others preferring a voter referendum limited to city residents and property owners.
