CROSSVILLE PAIR ARRESTED; HIT-AND-RUN LEADS TO METHAMPHETAMINE DISCOVERY IN VEHICLE
On December 2, 2025, Deputy Michael Winebarger of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office in Crossville, Tennessee, responded to a hit-and-run incident reported at a gas station on Highway 127 S. Video footage showed a female driver, identified as 52-year-old Melinda Claire Presley, backing a light-green Honda into a parked vehicle and fleeing the scene without stopping; a license check confirmed her driver’s license was suspended.
While attempting to locate Presley at her residence on Old Highway 28, the deputy observed a black Dodge truck pull into the driveway. The passenger, Presley, immediately exited and approached the patrol vehicle while emitting a strong odor of marijuana, leading to her on-view arrest.
The driver, 58-year-old Michael Eugene Norris, also exited and displayed a similar marijuana odor. Norris appeared nervous, distanced himself from the truck, and voluntarily produced a small amount of marijuana from inside the vehicle. Due to his suspicious behavior, the deputy conducted a search, discovering approximately 4 grams of an off-white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine in a cigarette pack near the driver’s seat, along with a glass pipe containing residue consistent with methamphetamine use.
Norris was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, while Presley faced charges for driving on a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident.
The suspected methamphetamine was seized for lab testing, and the marijuana and pipe were submitted for destruction; both individuals, residents of Crossville, were booked with court dates set for January 5, 2026, and bonds of $2,500 each.
