MASSIVE DATA BREACH EXPOSES OVER 10 MILLION RECORDS; BLUECROSS BLUESHIELD MEMBERS
A massive data breach at Conduent Business Services, a third-party provider handling back-office services for insurers including BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee and Illinois, exposed the personal information of over 10.5 million individuals, including dozens of Tennessee members.
The unauthorized access occurred from October 21, 2024, to January 13, 2025, with affected files containing names, addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers. Conduent only recently completed its review and began notifying victims, a delay of over a year that attorneys describe as unusual and indicative of potential shortcomings in detection systems.
As of now, the company reports no evidence of misuse of the stolen data, though experts warn that identity theft or fraud often emerges 12 to 18 months later. At least nine class action lawsuits have been filed against Conduent seeking compensation for affected individuals, with the number potentially growing as investigations continue.
Conduent is offering two years of free credit monitoring and identity restoration services, with enrollment encouraged by March 31, 2026.
Experts advise impacted individuals to place fraud alerts or credit freezes, monitor accounts closely, and beware of phishing attempts.
