AI-POWERED METAL DETECTORS NOW IN USE AT RHEA COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL
Rhea County Schools in Tennessee are enhancing security with the introduction of advanced AI-powered metal detectors, starting at Rhea County High School.
These detectors, which precisely identify the location of potential weapons without requiring physical searches, were successfully tested at the school’s May graduation and are now in daily use for screening students, staff, and visitors. School officials, including Principal Ansley Massengill and security director Mike Bice, emphasize the system’s efficiency, noting that it allows quick processing of large numbers of students while becoming smarter over time through AI learning.
Parents like Brandon Fine have expressed strong support, saying the measures make their children feel safer and reinforce the district’s commitment to safety. Officials describe the approach as proactive rather than reactive, with plans to expand the technology to additional schools in the district and to use it at school events.
