Governor Bill Lee has unveiled a new short film titled *Tennessee: The Original Frontier*, which celebrates the state’s pivotal contributions to America as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary of independence. Narrated by Tennessee native and beloved icon Dolly Parton, the film showcases the Volunteer State’s rich history—from its early days as a rugged frontier and its deep agricultural roots to its enduring influence on music, culture, and national identity. Parton’s heartfelt narration beautifully captures the pride, resilience, and optimism that have long defined Tennesseans.

The governor expressed deep gratitude to Dolly Parton for lending her powerful voice to this story of courage, perseverance, and opportunity, noting that the film honors generations of Tennesseans who helped shape the nation and invites reflection on the state’s heritage.

This release kicks off Tennessee’s year-long America 250 celebration, which began in July 2025 with visits to historic farms across the state’s Grand Divisions. Governor Lee plans to visit all 95 counties throughout the year, with more events to be announced. Commemorative elements include a special poster titled “Tennessee: The Original Frontier,” designed by renowned Knoxville artist Justin Helton (who also created posters for the state’s 225th anniversary), with prints available at upcoming events. The Tennessee Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial, facilitated by the Tennessee State Museum, is also supporting the initiative through grants—having already awarded over $1.5 million in the first round—and applications for a second round remain open through January 20, 2026.

This initiative invites all Tennesseans and Americans to connect with and celebrate the enduring legacy of the Original Frontier.
