McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy says that human remains were discovered near Etowah on Tuesday.

According to Sheriff Guy, the remains were discovered around 1130am in a wooded area near the Parkstown Community just south of Etowah.

The TBI is investigating the case with assistance from the McMinn Co Sheriff’s Office. The discovery may resolve a case of a local man who had recently left his home in the area and had not returned. However, the remains will undergo testing to determine a positive identification.

The investigation is ongoing.

“Anytime someone is found like this, we want to be conscious of the family members and friends who might be affected,” added Sheriff Guy. “They are certainly in our prayers.”
