CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL APPROVES THREE-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION FOR CITY MANAGER

At Tuesday night’s meeting, the Crossville City Council voted 4-1 to approve a three-year contract extension for City Manager Valerie Hale during their Tuesday night meeting, reflecting strong support for her performance in the role. Mayor R.J. Crawford, Mayor Pro Tem Art Gernt, and Councilmembers Mark Fox and Mike Turner all voted in favor, praising Hale’s excellent work and citing her prior positive evaluations.
Turner described her as having done a “great job,” while Gernt and Crawford echoed that sentiment, calling her an “amazing” city manager with outstanding reviews.
The sole no vote came from Councilman James Mayberry, who clarified that his opposition was not to Hale personally but stemmed from believing the renewal was premature without first conducting the council’s usual job performance evaluations. He noted that Hale’s current contract does not expire until April and argued that completing evaluations beforehand would be prudent, particularly in case any replacement process might ever be needed—though he acknowledged no such intention appeared likely.
Despite this concern, the majority approved the extension, affirming their confidence in Hale’s leadership.
