STOLEN TRUCK CRASH KILLS TWO INNOCENT VICTIMS IN FIERY SWEETWATER COLLISION

Yesterday in Sweetwater, a high-speed pursuit of a stolen truck from Georgia ended in tragedy on Highway 68 when the driver crossed the center line and struck a minivan head-on, killing the two adults inside.

Sweetwater police had twice attempted to stop the vehicle—first after its stolen plate was flagged, and again after it ran another car off the road and tried to hit an officer—before losing sight of it. Officers soon discovered the fiery crash scene, where both vehicles burned; despite rescue efforts, only one minivan occupant was removed, but both victims died.

The truck driver, who had an outstanding felony warrant and a stolen firearm aboard, also perished. Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating, and District Attorney General Stephen Hatchett offered condolences to the victims’ families while noting no other injuries occurred.
