On February 7, 2026, at around 12:49 a.m., Deputy Caleb Charles of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to Claysville Road to investigate possible narcotics activity based on prior intelligence. Upon arrival, the deputy contacted Robert Jay Wenig, a 64-year-old white male resident of the address, who was in the garage. Wenig initially denied living there or owning the property but later indicated the homeowner was inside the main residence.

With verbal consent from the homeowner, deputies searched the garage and located a black zipper bag near several used smoking pipes containing a white residue consistent with drug paraphernalia. Inside the bag, they found two small plastic baggies with a white crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine, along with additional empty baggies suggestive of resale packaging, digital scales, and a scoop spoon bearing crystal residue. A debit card belonging to Wenig was also recovered from the bag.

Wenig was placed under arrest. During a subsequent search of his person by Corporal Ethan Wilson, officers discovered a third matching plastic baggie containing the suspected methamphetamine and $585 in U.S. currency, mostly in small denominations—an indicator of narcotics sales. The total weight of the seized substance, believed to be methamphetamine, was approximately 12.86 grams across the three baggies. The evidence, including the drugs and cash, was secured in the sheriff’s office evidence locker pending Tennessee Bureau of Investigation testing.

Wenig was transported to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office intake for booking and charged with manufacturing, delivery, sale, or possession of methamphetamine. He faces a court date of March 16, 2026, with a $10,000 bond set.
