AAA REPORTS TENN. GAS PRICE AVERAGE RISE BY THREE CENTS

As of February 23, 2026, Tennessee’s average gas price for regular unleaded gasoline stands at $2.55 per gallon, reflecting a modest increase of three cents from the previous week. This figure is four cents higher than one month ago but remains 19 cents lower than the same time last year, offering drivers continued relief compared to 2025 levels. AAA spokeswoman Megan Cooper noted that prices have stayed within a relatively stable weekly range, providing a welcome break at the pump.

Nationally, the average price rose slightly to $2.93 per gallon, marking the lowest for this time of year since 2021. Prices are anticipated to begin a seasonal uptick soon with the shift to summer-blend fuel production, while geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and Iran could further influence crude oil costs. Recent EIA data shows gasoline demand rose last week to 8.74 million barrels per day, while domestic supply dipped to 255.8 million barrels amid production averaging 9.4 million barrels daily.

In the oil market, WTI crude settled at $65.19 per barrel after a $2.86 increase, with U.S. crude inventories dropping 9 million barrels to 419.8 million—about 5% below the five-year average for this period.

Within Tennessee, metro area prices vary: the highest averages are in Nashville ($2.62), Jackson ($2.61), and Cleveland ($2.57), while the lowest are in Morristown and Knoxville (both $2.46), followed by Johnson City ($2.48). Detailed city comparisons show Chattanooga at $2.517, Knoxville at $2.469, Memphis at $2.566, and Nashville at $2.625 as of the latest Monday reading, with most areas showing small weekly gains but year-over-year declines.
