HIGH RISK TRAFFIC STOP IN PUTNAM COUNTY LEADS TO FELONY ARREST

On Sunday, March 1, 2026, deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division, along with assistance from patrol deputies, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Middle Tennessee Task Force, attempted a high-risk traffic stop on Shawn Patrick Gibson at the Frenchman’s Market and Deli on Burgess Falls Road in Cookeville, Tennessee. Gibson fled the scene and intentionally rammed his vehicle into those of a Putnam County detective and a Middle Tennessee Drug Task Force agent. A pursuit ensued, involving ground deputies and the PCSO Aviation Division, until Gibson drove off an embankment into a wooded area, struck a tree, and was subsequently taken into custody.

Following his arrest, authorities recovered approximately 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine, 3.35 ounces of marijuana, 15 Schedule IV pills (including Alprazolam, Diazepam, and Clonazepam), and $1,100 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales. Gibson, who has a lengthy criminal history—including prior felony drug charges, felony evading arrest, aggravated assault, and over 20 previous bookings into the PCSO Jail—now faces numerous felony charges: manufacture, delivery, or sale of Schedule II methamphetamine; three counts related to Schedule IV substances; manufacture, delivery, or sale of Schedule VI marijuana; driving while in possession of methamphetamine; two counts of assault against a first responder; evading arrest; three counts of reckless endangerment; two counts of vandalism; resisting arrest; failure to maintain lane; and failure to yield.

He is being held on a $518,000 bond with a court appearance scheduled for March 4, 2026. Putnam County Sheriff Farris emphasized that the arrest resulted from proactive law enforcement efforts and strong interagency partnerships, underscoring the commitment to holding accountable those who endanger deputies and the public.
