ROANE COUNTY TO VOTE ON RESOLUTION URGING STATE FIX FOR I-40 SAFETY ISSUES
The Roane County Commission is scheduled to meet on Monday, March 9, at 6:00 p.m. at the courthouse in Kingston. During the meeting, commissioners are expected to vote on a joint resolution, developed in collaboration with municipal leaders throughout the county.
The resolution urges state transportation officials to take action to address ongoing safety concerns along Interstate 40 and the connecting state routes in Roane County. It highlights public safety data revealing an average of 1,703 roadway incidents per year over the past three years—equivalent to nearly five emergency responses per day.
Officials describe this high volume as placing an unsustainable strain on local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical services.
