ANDERSON, ROANE, AND MORGAN RESIDENTS MAY QUALIFY FOR UP TO $50,000 IN COMPENSATION

WBIR reports that residents of Anderson, Roane, and Morgan counties in East Tennessee may qualify for financial compensation through the Department of Justice’s Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA), which has recently expanded to include areas affected by Manhattan Project-related radiation exposure and is now rolling out in the region.
To be eligible, individuals must have lived, worked, or attended school in one of the designated affected areas for at least 24 consecutive months, providing proof of residency or presence, and been diagnosed with specific qualifying illnesses such as various forms of cancer (including leukemia after age 20, lymphomas other than Hodgkin’s, multiple myeloma, and primary cancers of the thyroid, breast, esophagus, stomach, lung, colon, and others).
Eligible claimants who are still living can receive $50,000, while family members filing on behalf of deceased relatives (such as spouses or parents) may qualify for $25,000. The program aims to help cover out-of-pocket medical expenses related to these radiation-linked conditions, offering potentially life-changing support to those impacted.
Many people in the community remain unaware of the opportunity, so local law firm Burrell & Varsalona is actively spreading awareness and assisting with claims. Interested individuals can contact their RECA claims specialist at (865) 463-6010 or email [email protected] for more information.
