SCHILLINGER CHARGED WITH FIRST-DEGREE MURDER APPEARS IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY COURT

A Cumberland County man charged with first-degree murder appeared in criminal court this morning.

Thirty-year-old Devin Christopher Schillinger stands accused of the death of 36-year-old Michael Paul Kerley stemming from an incident in July 2025. It took place at Schillinger’s home in the 200 block of George Anna Drive in Westel, just off Highway 70 East.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Kerley was walking across the driveway and was not threatening or speaking to anyone when Schillinger allegedly shot him in the head.

Kerley received medical attention and was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

In court today, the judge was updated on the status of the case. Evaluations are ongoing on Schillinger, and the results are pending.

The case was continued to May 19, 2026, where the judge could set a trial date at that time.

Schillinger remains in custody in the Cumberland County jail.
