CUMBERLAND COUNTY ASSESSOR’S OFFICE ACHIEVES 0.007% ERROR RATE IN ASSESSMENT CHANGE NOTICES

The Cumberland County Assessor’s office, led by Kelli Buchannon, has successfully completed another Assessment Change Notice season. Out of 70,526 parcels reviewed, the team achieved an exceptionally low error rate of just 0.007%, with only 5 items requiring correction during the final state review. This high level of accuracy, combined with finishing ahead of schedule, highlights the team’s strong dedication and attention to detail.

“Lockdown” refers to the annual process by which the assessor’s office must finalize and freeze their system by the end of April. Once locked down, assessment change notices are processed and mailed to property owners. These notices inform owners of any updates to their property records, such as new improvements, changes or removals of structures, or updates to business personal property. The notices serve three key purposes: notifying owners of the changes, giving them an opportunity to appeal if they disagree, and providing the basis for generating property tax bills later in the fall.

Notices are scheduled to be mailed this coming Monday (pending final processing), so property owners should begin receiving them within the next week. The post also includes an official verification form as part of the office’s annual process. Kelli Buchannon expressed deep gratitude for her team’s professionalism, accuracy, and integrity in serving Cumberland County.
