ROANE STATE RECEIVES ALMOST $250,000 GRANT FOR NUCLEAR EDUCATION

Roane State Community College was recently awarded a $249,847 Nuclear Equipment Funding (NEF) grant from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) to bolster its nuclear education and workforce training initiatives. This non-recurring grant, part of a broader $899,487 distribution among four Tennessee institutions, will allow Roane State to acquire advanced, high-tech training equipment for its associate degree programs in nuclear, chemical engineering, and environmental health technology.

Led by Program Director Dr. Joe Stainback IV, the initiative aims to bridge the regional gap for skilled technicians through hands-on instruction and industry-aligned curricula developed in partnership with local workforce leaders.

The investment, supported by Governor Bill Lee and the General Assembly, underscores Tennessee’s strategic commitment to energy innovation and economic development. By providing students with cutting-edge resources and internship opportunities, Roane State prepares graduates for high-paying careers that ensure the safe operation of nuclear facilities across East Tennessee.

As the six-month grant period begins, this funding serves as a critical catalyst for strengthening the state’s nuclear workforce pipeline and maintaining Tennessee’s leadership in the rapidly evolving energy sector.
