Wanda was born in 1948 to parents Claxton Choate and Carrie (Yates) Choate Smith. She grew up in the Boatland Community of Fentress County. After graduating from York Agricultural Institute (YAI) in 1965, Wanda moved to Nashville to further her education at Falls College. In Nashville, she met Ralph Landry from Cape Cod, Massachusetts who was living in Nashville at the time. They married, lived in Nashville for a couple of years and then moved to Massachusetts. Wanda was eventually led to her most enjoyable career opportunity at Fishery Products International where she worked as a Procurement Specialist. She was responsible for strategically sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing and selling fish and seafood products from multiple national and international suppliers. She visited large fishing vessels as she traveled extensively within the United States and to many foreign countries that included repeated trips to Canada, England, Croatia, Norway and China.
Wanda and Ralph spent time playing golf, going for long walks on the beach with their fur baby ChiChi, and spending the day fishing on their boat and taking in the ocean breeze.
Nearing retirement in 1995, Wanda and Ralph purchased a small farm in Rickman, TN and moved there permanently in 2001 where they lived until their passing; Ralph in 2022 and Wanda in 2026. Having no birth children, they focused attention on family, friends, church fellowship and close neighbors. They loved animals and after retiring to Tennessee, rescued many of God’s abandoned, four-legged creatures from the streets of Fentress and Overton counties.
Wanda loved attending church, meeting people and socializing. She loved flowers, birds, collecting rocks and nature in general. She volunteered time and resources to organizations raising funds for schools, animal shelters, spaying and neutering pets, and many other worthy causes.
