CROSSVILLE MAN FOILS $1,971 FRAUD ATTEMPTS ON DEBIT CARD FOR IPAD AND BEST BUY PURCHASES
On May 5, 2026, a 55-year-old Crossville, Tennessee resident reported that someone attempted to make two fraudulent purchases using his debit card. At approximately 7:11 PM, he received an email notification from Apple regarding an order for an iPad totaling $1,535.40, with the item set to be delivered to a woman at Plateau Rd.
Due to the possibility that the woman named in the order may be a victim of identity theft, a pseudonym, or otherwise unaffiliated, her name has been left out of this report
He immediately canceled the order.
Simultaneously, he received a text alert about a separate attempted purchase at Best Buy for $435.91, which he also successfully canceled before any funds were withdrawn.
The victim stated he did not recognize the name on the order or the delivery address. He contacted his bank, closed the affected account, and reported the incidents to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office the following day.
No money was lost.
The case remains pending as an attempted credit card fraud and wire fraud investigation.
