ATHENS SHOOTING SUSPECT ARRESTED
In Athens, Tennessee, police responded to a shooting at 108 Fisher Street, where they found a 36-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her upper extremity. She was transported to a regional trauma center for treatment, and her name has not been released. Officers determined that the suspect, 51-year-old Steven Wilkerson Jr., remained inside the residence and was believed to be armed.
After issuing verbal commands, they safely took him into custody without further incident. Wilkerson Jr. has been charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, Felon in Possession of a Weapon, and Employment of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony. His bond is set at $750,000. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The Athens Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is continuing to process the scene, with the investigation ongoing.
