I-75 IN MONROE COUNTY BACK OPEN AFTER BRIDGE DEMOLITION
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) temporarily closed a section of I-75 in Monroe County near Sweetwater for the demolition of the old State Route 322 bridge over the interstate. The work began at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 15, with drivers on I-75 required to exit and re-enter at Exit 62 (Sweetwater), while flaggers directed traffic on State Route 322 through the work zone.
Motorists were advised to use caution due to the presence of workers and could bypass the area via alternate routes such as State Route 322, State Route 2, or State Route 68. Northbound traffic could use Exit 60 and southbound traffic Exit 68 to avoid the zone. The closure was scheduled to end by 6 a.m. on Monday, May 18, with the weekend timing chosen to avoid rolling roadblocks later in the summer, weather permitting.
The interstate reportedly reopened around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.
