TORNADO WARNING ISSUED FOR CUMBERLAND, PUTNAM, AND WHITE COUNTIES
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for portions of Northwestern Cumberland, Central White, and Southeastern Putnam Counties in Tennessee.
The warning, which went into effect at 4:24 p.m. CT after a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was detected near Sparta, lasted until 5:15 p.m.
The storm was moving northeast at 35 mph, potentially impacting areas including Virgin Falls State Natural Area, Doyle, Pleasant Hill, and Interstate 40 between mile markers 300 and 317. Officials warned of dangerous flying debris, damage to mobile homes, roofs, windows, vehicles, and trees. The tornado warning for White County was canceled just before 5 p.m. as rain continued across the region.
