TWRA ISSUES 2026 MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY BOATING REPORT
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) reported zero boating-related fatalities over the 2026 Memorial Day holiday weekend, marking the second consecutive year without a holiday tragedy.
While rainy weather contributed to a decrease in typical recreational boating traffic, the agency did record two injury incidents—one on the Tennessee River in Decatur County and another on Old Hickory Lake in Wilson County—and game wardens made seven arrests for boating under the influence (BUI).
Despite the safe holiday weekend, Tennessee waterways have seen nine boating-related fatalities so far this year, which is an increase from the five recorded at this same point in 2025. As part of its ongoing mission, the TWRA remains dedicated to protecting and managing the state’s fish and wildlife while ensuring public safety through law enforcement and safety education on the water.
