A Sevierville man faces federal charges after being accused of using the internet to solicit child rape.

Homeland Security investigators say 28-year-old Matthew Carpenter was arrested and charged following a text message exchange in which he offered $400 to rape a 9-year-old girl.

The arrest was made possible due to the work of undercover police officers.
