CUMBERLAND COUNTY MAN FACES DEADLINE HEARING NEXT WEEK ON MULTIPLE CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE CHARGES
A Cumberland County man is scheduled to appear in court next week to face a critical deadline hearing following a multi-count grand jury indictment detailing years of alleged child sexual abuse and exploitation.
According to official court dockets, David Michael Murrow will appear in Cumberland County Circuit Court on July 7, 2026. Murrow is currently represented by a public defender and remains free on a $250,000 bond secured through the Tennessee Bonding Company.
The Charges and Indictment
The upcoming court appearance stems from a special November 2024 term of the Cumberland County Grand Jury. A “true bill” indictment returned on November 4, 2024, by Grand Jury Foreman Robert W. Garthy outlines seven severe counts against Murrow.
The criminal counts include:
-
Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child (alleged to have occurred over a prolonged period between April 2008 and February 2023 involving a single victim, identified in court documents as K.B.)
-
Rape of a Child (3 counts) (alleged to have occurred between March 3 and March 4, 2023)
-
Aggravated Sexual Battery
-
Sexual Exploitation of a Minor (relating to the possession of explicit photographs on or about February 16, 2024)
-
Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor
Additional Allegations
Beyond the sexual abuse charges, Count 6 of the indictment further alleges that Murrow knowingly contributed to the delinquency of the minor victim. Prosecutors state that Murrow aided and participated in acts of delinquency with the child, specifically involving the simple possession of marijuana, the simple possession of methamphetamine, and the procurement of alcoholic beverages for the minor’s use.
Upcoming Legal Proceedings
The state’s case is being handled by the Office of District Attorney General Bryant C. Dunaway. A comprehensive list of witnesses has been summoned by the court clerk for the ongoing proceedings, including investigators from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department (CCSO), Crossville Police Department (CPD), Tansi Police, the Department of Children’s Services (DCS), the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), and the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force out of Knoxville.
The July 7th proceeding is designated as a deadline hearing, a standard legal milestone used to manage case progression, resolve pretrial motions, or establish definitive trial dates.
