ROANE COUNTY GRAND JURY TO REVIEW FATAL JUNE 11 SHOOTING OF MARCUS COUCH
Authorities have announced that the investigation into the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Marcus Couch is expected to be presented to the Roane County Grand Jury during its October session to determine if criminal charges will be filed.
Deputies with the Roane County Sheriff’s Office responded late in the evening on June 11 to a residence at 324 Speers Road following reports of a shooting. According to investigators, an altercation broke out among several individuals present at the home, during which a firearm was discharged. Couch was struck in the chest and killed.
An autopsy later confirmed that Couch died from a close-range gunshot wound.
Chief Deputy Tim Phillips, who is also the Sheriff-elect, stated that deputies began their investigation immediately upon arriving at the scene. Following the completion of the autopsy and the collection of physical evidence, law enforcement plans to lay out the findings before grand jurors in October to evaluate whether anyone should face criminal liability in connection with the death.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No charges or arrests have been announced pending the grand jury’s review.
