MEIGS COUNTY DEPUTY AMBUSHED AND ASSAULTED DURING ROUTINE PATROL

Law enforcement officials are appealing to the public for information after a Meigs County Sheriff’s Deputy was ambushed and knocked unconscious while on routine patrol on July 15, 2026.

According to officials, the deputy initiated contact with a male individual in the area of Peakland Road and Highway 68. As the deputy exited his patrol vehicle to speak with the man, a second individual launched a surprise attack from behind, striking the officer with an unknown object.

The blow temporarily knocked the deputy unconscious. Both suspects fled the scene on foot immediately following the assault.

The deputy received medical attention and is now recovering at home.

Authorities are actively investigating the incident and urging anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the suspects to contact the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
