A routine traffic stop for speeding late Sunday night escalated into a major narcotics arrest involving a driver and her passenger on Northside Drive.

At approximately 10:46 p.m. on June 14, 2026, a Crossville Police Department officer pulled over a Toyota 4Runner traveling 60 mph in a 50 mph zone. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside.

The driver, identified as Brittany Everton, refused to participate in standard field sobriety tests. However, she consented to a Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) evaluation, which she subsequently failed after exhibiting all six indicators of impairment.

Following the test, Everton admitted to using a THC vape shortly before driving. She was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence (DUI). Officers later obtained a search warrant for a blood sample, which was executed at Cumberland Medical Center early Monday morning.

The passenger, Kendall Chalk, initially refused to identify herself and declined sobriety testing to see if she could safely take over the vehicle. As Chalk exited the SUV at the officers’ request, a green glass bong fell from the vehicle and shattered on the ground.

Chalk was placed under arrest for Public Intoxication. During a search incident to her arrest, officers found a small baggie containing a cut straw and approximately 0.41 grams of a white powdery substance that field-tested positive for cocaine.

A subsequent search of the 4Runner uncovered additional illegal substances and contraband, including:

• Cocaine: A container holding approximately 7.27 grams of cocaine located in a bag on the passenger-side floorboard.

• Ecstasy: Eight blue, pentagon-shaped pills believed to be ecstasy found in the same passenger-side bag.

• Open Alcohol: Two open 12-ounce White Claw cans.

• THC Device: A white THC vape device inside the center armrest.

Neither Everton nor Chalk claimed ownership of the narcotics discovered inside the vehicle.

Both women were transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center. All evidence collected from the scene was logged with the Crossville Police Department as the investigation remains officially documented.
